What Does a Brow Lift Correct?
Brow lift surgery is generally used to correct a tired, heavy, or fatigued expression caused by brow descent. With aging, both the inner and outer portions of the brow may descend. In some patients, the inner portion is affected more, while in others the outer portion drops more noticeably.
The brow should always be evaluated together with the upper eyelid. This is because, in most patients, the best result is achieved when the brow and upper eyelid are planned together.
Is a Brow Lift the Same as a Forehead Lift?
Although these two expressions are often used interchangeably, they are not exactly the same. Every forehead lift includes some degree of brow lifting. However, not every brow lift is truly a full forehead lift.
For this reason, the area that needs the greater degree of correction should be evaluated according to the patient’s anatomy.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Brow Lift?
Patients who appear more tired, heavy, or even angry because of brow descent; who have crowding in the upper eyelid area; and whose brow position negatively affects the appearance of the eye area may be suitable candidates for brow lift.
The appropriate technique is chosen according to the patient’s brow structure, forehead height, hairline, and expectations.
In Which Patients Might Brow Lift Be Unnecessary or Less Suitable?
In patients without meaningful brow descent, a brow lift may be unnecessary. In addition, in patients with significant baldness or with a hairline and forehead structure that are not well suited to certain techniques, the method must be selected very carefully.
Are There Different Brow Lift Techniques?
Yes. There are many different brow lift techniques. These include endoscopic brow lift, the gliding brow lift technique, direct brow lift, brow lift / forehead shortening through the hairline, and temporal lift.
Not every technique is suitable for every patient. The most appropriate method should be chosen by evaluating the patient’s anatomy together with their expectations.
Can Brow Lift Be Combined with Other Surgeries?
Yes. Brow lift is most commonly planned together with facelift and upper eyelid surgery. In some patients, when adequate brow elevation is achieved, upper eyelid surgery may no longer be necessary. In others, performing both procedures together creates a more balanced result.
